Clif Porter, president and CEO of the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) capped off National Skilled Nursing Care Week by publishing an op-ed for RealClearHealth on “Long-Term Care’s Enduring Impact on American Healthcare.”
He writes about “the indispensable role long-term care plays in helping millions of individuals live fully with dignity, safety, and purpose,” the association said. “The timing of the piece is particularly meaningful as we observe National Skilled Nursing Care Week from May 10 to May 16, 2026, honoring the people who live, work, and volunteer in long-term and post-acute care across the country.”
In addition, Porter highlights the urgent need to continue to strengthen access to long-term care. The op-ed also notes the undeniable value of the sector and the many ways that long-term care benefits local communities and the entire ecosystem of care.
“Now is the time for policymakers to address the growing demand for long-term care and work to establish supportive policies that invest in the high-quality care that millions of seniors and individuals with disabilities rely on,” AHCA/NCAL said.
