Clock Ticks: SNFs Have to Act on Medicare/Medicaid Revalidation
Skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) enrolled in Medicare or Medicare/Medicaid have until Jan. 1, 2026, to submit a mandatory off-cycle enrollment revalidation or possibly face a suspension or revocation of enrollment in the government programs, according to the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) on Friday.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) extended the enrollment deadline from Aug. 1, 2025, after AHCA/NCAL urged for more time for what are extensive new reporting requirements.
Dan Ciolek, associate vice president of therapy advocacy for AHCA, said AHCA/NCAL advocacy efforts continue for even more relief on the deadline, but if the Jan. 1, 2026, date stands, “it is important for SNF providers notified by their MAC to ensure completion of the revalidation submission process by Jan. 1.”
SNF providers are encouraged to contact their MAC provider enrollment helpdesk if they are unsure about revalidation status.
Help Is Easy to Find
Ciolek said AHCA/NCAL offers a SNF provider enrollment resources on the Reimbursement webpage under Resources and Documents. SNF providers should also review the two AHCA/NCAL office hours calls from March 28 and April 4 that reflect the updated changes to the sub-regulatory guidance. The call recordings and downloadable slides are available.
SNFs can find sub-regulatory guidance information on the new organizations and individual parties required to be reported on the CMS website. The agency also offers a screenshot of instructions on completing an application via the Medicare Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership System.
