The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) on Tuesday issued a delayed national employment report showing skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) added 8,400 jobs in November when compared to October of this year.

Year-to-year, SNFs employed some 60,000 more people last month when compared to November 2024 at 1,568,500 vs. 1,508,500.

All numbers are seasonally adjusted.

Mark Parkinson, CEO of Park Place Live, and former head of the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living, said the post-pandemic employment performance continues to improve.

“It’s great to see the job recovery in SNFs continue. Staffing on SNFs will always be tough but this data is encouraging,” he said.

The stock market early on Tuesday had a mixed reaction to the BLS report. Nationally, BLS said the economy added 64,000 jobs, which was better than the 45,000 jobs that economists expected. However, BLS said the economy in October lost 105,000 payrolls, and the unemployment rate increased to 4.6 percent in November, which was above the Dow Jones expectation of 4.5 percent.

The November BLS employment report was originally scheduled for release on Dec. 5 but was delayed by the impact of the now-ended government shutdown.
