For Ensign, meeting the building goals is enveloped in a contest called the flag. “In the flag, multiple buildings can win the flag, but in order to win the flag, you have to be really, really good at 10 to 12 clinical and financial goals,” Parkinson said.

“These building contests create a lot of camaraderie and friendly competition between the buildings. They create ownership within the buildings because it doesn't just become the administrator and the DON that want to win the award,” he explained.
