U.S. jobs data for the month of May showed a slight decrease in the number of people working in SNFs when compared to the previous month, easing off the significant job growth recorded in April.
U.S. jobs data released on Friday for the month of May showed a slight decrease in the number of people working in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) when compared to the previous month, easing off the significant job growth recorded in April, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
The raw number of those employed in SNFs in May was at 1,585,100 an ever-slight drop from the 1,585,200 with such jobs in April, for a net loss of 100 jobs.
Year-over-year, the improvement in SNF jobs remains a consistent trend. In May 2025, 1,547,900 people held SNF jobs, some 37,200 lower than in May 2026.
Nationally, the BLS report showed a better-than-expected increase in employment, with 172,000 jobs added in May versus the Wall Street estimate for only 80,000 jobs.
The unemployment rate in May remained at 4.3 percent, the same as in April.
All numbers are seasonally adjusted.
