The Federal Reserve raised interest rates for the first time since 2023, by a quarter of a percentage point due to continued inflationary pressures.

The Federal Reserve on Sept. 16 raised interest rates for the first time since 2023, by a quarter of a percentage point to a target range of 3.75 percent to 4 percent.


The Fed said more increases could follow later in the year.


The move came amid what is being called “persistent” inflationary pressures on the economy.
