New CRS Report Offers Overview of Assisted Living Market
Everything you need to know about assisted living facilities and AL demographics are contained in a new brief by the Congressional Research Service.
A new report by the Congressional Research Service (CRS) offers an overview of the assisted living market, giving a rundown of regulatory issues, demographics, acuity levels, and related oversight issues.
In the report, CRS said the overwhelming majority of ALF residents were aged 65 and over (94 percent), with more than half aged 85 and over (52.8 percent).
Data show that most residents were female (67percent) and non-Hispanic White (92 percent).
High blood pressure, Alzheimer's disease or other dementias, and heart disease were the most common chronic conditions residents reported. Only 20% of ALFs indicated they specialize in dementia care or have a particular floor, wing, or unit of the facility dedicated to dementia care, CRS said.
