SNFs Add Jobs in August by the Smallest of Margins
August SNF employment gained by a small margin, according to the latest employment report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Sept. 4. July SNF jobs were revised lower.
August SNF employment continued on the positive side but by a very small margin, according to the latest employment report issued by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) on Sept. 4. Revisions to the July numbers, meanwhile, were adjusted lower.
National numbers came in much better than expected with the nation adding 162,000 jobs in August. This compares to the Wall Street expectation for a 53,000 jobs increase. BLS said the unemployment rate held at 4.1 percent.
For SNFs, BLS said the sector in August added 100 jobs. Yes, 100. That puts the overall employment in raw-number terms at 1,590,200 people employed. In July, the new jobs level for SNFs was put at 1,590,100 jobs, a decrease of 2,800 jobs from the original report of 1,592,900 employed.
Yearly comparisons have SNF employment 32,800 jobs higher in August 2026 than in August 2025 when 1,557,400 people worked for facilities, BLS said.
