A group of four U.S. senators proposed a bill to make overtime double a worker's regular salary instead of 1.5 times the salary.

The Double the Wage for Overtime Act would raise the overtime rate from 1.5 times a worker’s regular hourly rate as set nearly 90 years ago to double the rate.

The Double the Wage for Overtime Act is co-sponsored by Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.).

A worker making $25 an hour and working 10 hours overtime a week would make $6,500 more a year as a result of the bill, Gallego said.
