A recent report called “Trends and Factors in Nursing Home Closures” in JAMA Health Forum gives insights into how facilities transition through openings, closures, and change of ownership.
The authors said, “this study provides a comprehensive longitudinal characterization of NH life cycle dynamics in the US over 4 decades using CMSPOS data.”
They said across 33,110 physical locations, “we found that NH markets are defined less by stable institutional persistence and more by continuous organizational change, including entry, exit, ownership transitions, and capacity reconfiguration.”
