A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit by two nursing home sector associations in Minnesota to dissolve the state’s nursing home labor standards board after the board recently gained final approval to raise the wage floor for nursing home facility staff.
LeadingAge Minnesota and Care Providers of Minnesota had argued that the Minnesota Nursing Home Workforce Standards Board is unconstitutional and violates federal labor and antitrust laws. U.S. District Judge Nancy Brasel did not buy the argument ruling.
The new minimum wages starting on Sept. 10 for facility staff are $22.50/hour for CNAs, $23.50/hour for trained medication aides, $27/hour for licensed practical nurses, and $19/hour for all other nursing home workers. The hourly wages will increase another $1.50/hour across all job categories on Jan. 1, 2027.
The new wage levels for these job categories compare to the Minnesota state minimum wage for all other workers of $11.41/hour.
